Notes

We will be knitting this pattern “in company” with a few folks in the Berroco KAL Alumni Chatter thread starting April 1st, 2026.

Some of us are intrigued to giving socks that are knitted sideways a try!

I think I will use the Pumpkin color for the background and the Fennel for the “leaves”. I added the Moccha to the project because maybe I might make the heel and the toes in a third color … not sure yet.

Or Fennel for the background and Oats for the leaves, with a Pumpkin heel and toes … well, I still have a few days to think about it …

Happy Cast-On Day!

It’s been a crazy day, but I managed to cast on. Color choices: Oats for the background, Fennel for the leaves.

April 2, 2026 Chart A is complete

Oh, boy, is this knitting method addictive!

After working the first petal in Fennel, I felt sorry to miss out on the Pumpkin. Then I remembered that this knitting method easily allows to use multiple colors and tried it out. I’m loving the results and will be happily mixing Fennel and Pumpkin for petals and leaves …

I’m also now using both, the charts and the written instructions. At first I found it difficult to figure out how to count the rows in the chart when I tried to figure out where to place the extra two rows (using thinner yarn). Also, the numbers are really, really tiny. I now marked up the chart with some key info, including a few key numbers and where to add extra rows.

April 3, 2026 Chart B complete

The designer mentioned in an exchange that it would be addictive … I can confirm that now!

Rolling right along with my current setup and enjoying it.

All done, and I’m very pleased with it.

I don’t need to add a border to the upper leg as I originally thought.

Besides using the interesting technique, the sock-making approach is also pretty cool and has potential to be re-used for many other applications (i.e. if you have a self-striping yarn).
