Notes

The Best Little Yarn Crawl in Texas currently runs an IG challenge to finish up stash/haul from previous yarn crawls. I love the idea and immediately picked this pair of Karina fingerless mittens that I have had on my to-do list for 2 years.

It’s not a big project, but the yarn is so precious - the blackest natural yarn I’ve ever seen - that I was waiting for a special occasion.

The yarn is amazing, and the pattern - like all of Martha’s designs - has been a lot of fun.

I made two changes:

  • I used a slightly looser gauge with 24 instead of the 26 recommended sts/4”. I think the yarn comes out even softer that way, without compromising the fabric.
  • I shortened the cuff a little bit … personal preference. Since I did not want to interfere with the pattern write-up, which comes as convenient line-by-line instructions, I decided to take out rows 9-16 on each mitten. This shortens the cuff and the third cable, but that makes the latter look like a decorative button right over the wrist. I thought it to be the least invasive and most convenient and pretty.

Because of the shortened cuffs I only needed 2 balls of the yarn.
