Sometimes “stash happens”!
Last week, I saw the Sundial Vest pattern on FB and decided to make it. The yarn I want to use will be here next week, but yesterday - inspired by the “Best Little Yarn Crawl in Texas” challenge of busting our stashes - I looked through my stash and saw these 4 balls of Medina … I decided to give it a try and put the two together.

I’m at EOB 1 (end of ball 1), 14 rows into the Upper Back.

Because the yarn I’m using is a little bit thinner than the suggested yarn, I just make a larger size: I’m following the instructions for 3X, but the measurements will come out as L. To get there, I worked the Lower Back until I reached the desired width of 42”, then determined that I used “3X” rows to get there.

So far, I’m enjoying the project a lot. The yarn promises to look good, going in all those different directions. The instructions are good to follow. Progress is fast. There’s a good chance it will be done quickly, and therefore wearable this summer!

EOB 2 (end of ball 2)

Mods:

  • Upper Back: I repeated rows 18-21 one more time for a little extra length.
  • Front Side: Since size 3X already has one more repeat of rows 1-4 than size L, I just went with the 20 rows before starting the increases.
  • Front Side: I worked additional increases on the center facing side only in rows 25-27, to gain a little extra width of the fronts. Total stitch count for 3X at this point is 63.

07-23-2019 Final Notes

I decided to close the sides. With a yarn as vivid as Medina, it looks better.

I crocheted around the fronts, and then around the armholes (1 row sc).

Love this pattern … I think it will look great in some of the new fall/winter yarns, for example the Sesame, Providence, or Pirouette !
