Notes

Scarecrow Gnome and his friend Crow are our Gnome of the Month September, when beautiful fall colors and cooler temperatures are inviting to enjoy the outdoors.

Other Materials

  • (2) buttons, 1/2 inch
  • Stuffing
  • Tapestry needle, scissors

GNOME
Weave

  • (1) 6” variegated hexagon for the body
  • (1) 6” green hexagon for the hat
  • (1) 4” beige hexagon for the head
  • (1) 2” beige hexagon for the nose
  • (2) 2” brown hexagons for the feet
  • (1) 2” fuzzy hexagon for the beard
  • (1) 1” variegated hexagon for the patch

Assembly

  • To form the body, weave a piece of yarn all around the body hexagon and pull it close a little bit. Stuff. Pull tight the opening to about 1.5” and secure.
  • To form the head, weave a yarn end all around the head hexagon and pull it in. Stuff. Pull tight the opening to about 1.5” and secure.
  • Sew head to body.
  • To form the nose, weave a yarn end all around the nose hexagon and pull it. Stuff. Pull tight the opening to about 0.5” and secure.
  • Sew nose onto the head.
  • For the beard, sew one side of the beard hexagon right under the nose.
  • For the hat, fold the hat hexagon in half as shown. Pull in the top fold to form a tip, then sew along the length of one hexagon side to form the hat. Very lightly stuff the hat, then position it onto the gnome’s head and body as pictured and secure with a few stitches (start in the back of the head for even distribution).
  • For each foot, weave a yarn end all around a foot hexagon and pull it in. Stuff. Pull tight to close the opening. Sew feet to body.
  • Sew patch with black yarn onto the hat.
  • Randomly pull a few strands of raffia through parts of the fabric to imitate stuffing coming out.

CROW
Weave

  • (1) 4” black hexagon for the body
  • (2) 1” yellow hexagons for the feet

Assembly

  • To form the body, fold the black hexagon in half as shown in the pictures. Close two sides, stuff, close all the way.
  • For each foot, weave a yarn end around a foot hexagon and pull it tight to close the opening. Sew feet to body.
  • Sew the eyes into place with some sewing thread.
