This has been a pattern I’ve been wanting to knit for YEARS! Due to the blizzard and having time off work, I decided this was the perfect time to start it. I’ll have a lot less time to devote to it than in previous years with massive snowstorms, however, since I have an ever-more demanding 3 year old boy…
This yarn is NOT good for cabling, as it is very splitty. It’s the only bulky superwash merino I have on hand, though, so I’ll make it work.
I knit the ribbing to 2 1/2”, just because I thought it looked better.
I am also knitting the fronts and back all at once.
Didn’t love how the cross stitch cables were looking so I replaced them with more ear of corn cables… yay for simplifying the pattern!
1.27.16 apparently the first skein was somehow a different dyelot :( It’s much more noticeable in the picture due to the flash than in real life, but this is one instance where I hope the yarn bleeds and stains the bottom darker!
1.28.16 Thrilled to have the whole week off work for snow! Only getting a couple of hours to knit each day, but with this bulky yarn, it’ll be enough to finish this by the weekend.
For those who are interested, each sleeve took exactly 1 skein of yarn to knit it to 11 repeats of the cable, and the body took 10 rows more than where I added on ball #5 before adding the sleeves. This was 10 repeats of the same cable as on the sleeves.
1.29.16 UGH… I’ve got about 1/4 of my last ball of yarn left, and it’s not going to be enough. I think another 1/2 a ball would do it… I have sent messages to everyone on Ravelry who has it stashed and I hope someone is kind enough to help me out! It would be horrible to have to rip out the last close to a foot of knitting, including the sleeve attachment, and shorten the body just to be able to finish it :/
2.8.16 This would have been a 6-day sweater if I hadn’t run out of yarn! I received yarn today from a fellow knitter, kkwcatfish, who sold me her stash to allow me to finish my cardigan!
When I completed the raglan decreases and had 4 stitches left for each sleeve, I had more stitches left for the fronts and back than the pattern I was following indicated. I did one more decrease row, down to 2 sleeve stitches, and still had 42 back stitches left over. I’ll just knit the collar parts a little longer and call it good.
