24 October 2019: all finished! LOVE IT.

I love knitting lace. When this pattern came out a couple of years ago, I fell in love with it but I was not ready to knit a sweater then. But after countless lace shawls, and a dozen+ sweaters later, it’s finally mine.

The pattern is great, well written and clear. This will not be my last zweig.

I made modifications. First off, I was inspired by sybiller’s monochromatic zweig. Then, I also had to take into consideration the weight of the yarn I used and the gauge. I nixed the cable pattern on the body and went with plain stockinette as I really wanted the lace to stand out; increased at different times and different #s; made slightly puffy sleeves; used twisted rib on funnel neck, and all the ribbing (cuffs, hem).

Notes:

  • long tail cast-on size xs
  • twisted rib funnel neck, like sibyller’s
  • increased as per increase round 1 for size xs
  • short rows
  • k a couple of rounds
  • increased to size medium number of stitches (listed in increase round 3)
  • k1 round
  • lace chart
  • k 2 rounds
  • increased to xs number of stitches (listed in increase round 6)
  • k 2 rounds
  • twisted rib for 5 rounds
  • k 15 rounds (probably could’ve gotten away with 10, maybe 12, but didn’t want to risk it riding up my underarms)
  • separated body and sleeve sts (54 per sleeve); c/o 8 per underarm
  • decreased on 8th, 16th and 24th rounds to get to 196.
  • knitted a bunch of rounds to desired length (taking into consideration the ribbed hem yet to be knitted)
  • switched to us6 for twisted rib hem
  • b/o in pattern

sleeves:

  • immediately decreased to 60 sts (for no particular reason)
  • increased by two, every 9th round (eight times) to get to 76 sts; then knitted eight more rounds before decreasing to 40 sts
  • switched to us6 for twisted rib and b/o in pattern.

measurements post-wash, taken flat:
neck circ: 6.5”
bust circ: 19”
sleeve upper arm circ: 5.5”
sleeve cuff circ: 2.875”
length center front c/o to b/o edge: 22”
body length from underarm to b/o edge: 10.5”
sleeve length from underarm: 15”
funnel neck length: 4.5”
lace section length: 4.75”
sleeve cuff length: 4.125”
body ribbed hem length: 2.5”

gauge stockinette in-the-round US7: 21 sts by 32 rows

22 October 2019: off the needles. Will wash and dry soon.

20 October 2019: one sleeve done.

17 October 2019: switched to US6 for twisted rib hem; bound off in pattern. Sweater so far weighs 273 g, which means it has eaten up 136g per cone.

16 October 2019: not cropped.

13 October 2019: how cropped do I really want this to be?

10 October 2019: that was waaaaaay too much ease. Had to rip back a bit.

5 October 2019: the lace yoke just flows right off the needles. I can’t seem to put it down. Each lace round is very intuitive and easy to memorize.

3 October 2019: c/o XS, US7, supersoft held double. Plan to use uS7 for most of the knitting; maybe smaller needle for cuff ribbing.
