Update 2023
The wonderful Rebecca has made Louie the Lovebot Pattern free in 2023! Here’s the link: Louie the Love Bot
This is very generous of her, and I would encourage anyone who is able, to consider donating the cost of a pattern or Venti Macchiato coffee to her Ko-Fi account:

NOTE Also, the Reflex Yarn from Viking Garn was from a sale bin here in town and it’s no longer available as far as I can tell, but I did try Starlight from Hobbii for another toy I made called Ellie the Elephant. It’s not nearly as soft but it does reflect light:

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 2 years already since my great nephew Ethan was born. He and Louie have become best friends. He drags him everywhere and calls him “Lou Do”. awww My HEART bursts! They are inseparable. xoxo
Louis is quite shy, and is the sweetest little robot you’ll ever meet. He is a big fan of retro gaming - and his favourite game is Tetris. A bot after my own heart.
I purchased this brilliant pattern way back in 2012, and the perfect time finally arrived for me to make Louis the Lovebot! My sweet niece, Amber, is having a baby boy and her nursery theme is space age! I’m having a blast making this guy. :)
I’m not that proficient at magic loop, so I stuck with my comfort zone and I used a (9” mini) US 3 circular to knit the body. And DPNs for the rest as follows:
US 4 DPNs for the head.
US 3 DPNs for the arms
US 4 DPNs for the legs and feet
US 3 DPNs for the ear bolts
I worked the heart using Duplicate Stitch.
I worked the legs and ear bolts slightly different than the pattern. (See notes below)
LEGS:
I worked the legs exactly like the arms (top down) rather than foot up. With main colour I CO 12 sts with US 4 and knit in the round for 5.25” from cast on. Switch to contrast colour knit one round even, then Increase to 16 sts {KFB, KFB, K4} x 2
Knit 10 rounds and then decrease: {K2tog, K5, K2tog}
and kitchner sts closed.
EAR BOLTS:
I picked up 4 sts parallel (see pic) and worked 2 rounds and then Kitchener stitch closed.
The Viking of Norway yarn is reflective so Louis will glow when light hits him. Hard to get a pic of this !
