Worsted weight yarn. Brim with smaller needles. Pattern with larger needles. Cast on 96 stitches. Work 2 knit, 2 purl ribbing all the way around for at least one inch. Fallow pattern in picture. Repete pattern 4 times. At the diagonal rows of the top part of the pattern - work a decrease 2 rows above the green stitch.

I believe what I have here is a mitten pattern that I adapted to make a hat. I added in more color and an extra column. I messed up the pattern on the bottom of my knitting and didn’t feel like undoing it. It works though.
