I was sort of worried about this but it turned out just like I pictured it! I used a 5mm hook and the pattern calls for a 5.5, so I had to improvise in some spots.

I started by increasing to 9 stitches per row to make it a little taller, then I color switched every four rows to get a nice, thick block of color.
