“You can do this practically seamless, too. Use a stitch marker in the first sc, then work in spiral fashion by making the first new sc in the old first sc and keep going if you’re making the straight version, or make the first new sc in the top of the old first fpdc if you’re making the spiraled rib version. When you’re on the last round you want to do, work in pattern until the last three sts, the make a fpdc around the second to last fpdc, slip stitch in the top of the last two and finish off.
