Planning to attend an astrological conference in New Orleans in May 2012, I wanted to make something to wear to the big banquet.

Currently thinking to make a pullover vest inspired by van Gogh’s “Starry Night” painting. Thinking I can save time (on the sleeves) if I make a vest instead of a full sweater.

Planning to use sock yarn (yes, I know, lots of knitting), to make this because I want something lightweight I can wear in a warmer clime.

Malabrigo has some beautiful sock yarn, including one called “Impressionist Sky”, that I have on order.

Planning to use Intarsia to get zones of different colors for the stars, upper sky, lower sky and ground. Duplicate stitching can highlight the details.

Intarsia? In the round? Yes, it can be done, using short row wrap & turn. I need to do a swatch to see how that looks.

Can I get this done before the conference? We’ll see.

2/12/12 - Yesterday found perfect yarn for cypress tree in left foreground. Also found good yarn for star centers and lower, lightest portion of the sky.

Don’t think I’ve ever expended as many resources (time & money) on a project. I’ve probably purchase enough of the Malabrigo sock yarn to make a couple sweaters.

I need to get this on the needles soon.

2/15/12 - Cast on tonight. Not sure how this is going to turn out, but it’s going to be fun trying.

2/17/112 - completed knitting 10 rows on size 2’s to make the inside hem. Over lunch will swap colors and do one row in the new color before purling a “turning row” and continuing with stockinette as I being the assault on this vest.

This is either going to be amazingly wonderful or a big pain in the tookus. Keep your fingers crossed.

2/18/12 - stayed up until 2:30 this morning working on the turned hem at the bottom of this garment. I really love the colors and the way this is coming together. It’s hard to do anything else; all I want to do is knit.

The pictures don’t do justice to the colors in the yarn. This is going to be … amazing.

2/25/12 - Added picture composed of images of the yarn being used. It helps me to visualize where I’m headed.

4/13/12 - I’ve taken a break from this work. I realized I needed to tweak the design a bit. I’m working on socks while I finalize the design.
