I thought the big 2 tone snowflake on the Midwinter Neckwarmer would be the right number of rows to work on a hat - and it worked a treat!

I’ve used 2 really plump merino DK’s and they worked up beautifully. Just hope it doesn’t grow when washed…

I cast on 108 sts and worked 16 rows of 2 x 2 rib. Increased 12 sts on first stst row, then did 5 pattern repeats.

Pity the mustard colour isn’t as nice as it looked on screen when I ordered it! I can’t get a decent pic in this light…

And it needs a pompom to finish it off.

Decided to remake with silver grey, and add some plain rows before starting the snowflake.
Cast on 108 on 3.25mm needles, 14 rows double rib, change to 4mm needles, inc 12 sts on first stocking stitch row - 120 sts.
Work 3 more rows of st st.
Start snowflake.
Begin decreases (every 12th st) on 23rd row of snowflake.
Switch to 3.75mm needles for last few rows.

Hmmm…. well I made the first half of the snowflake but to be honest, although the mustard yarn looks surprisingly brighter with the silver grey, there just isn’t enough contrast. (See photo)

So, I think I will unpick the original mid grey hat (somewhen!) and add those extra plain grey rows at the bottom!
The silver grey will be frogged to the ribbing and then I’ll use a gorgeous ball of cherry with it.
