Nerdwars Challenge : Volume P

“I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart). I am never without it. Anywhere I go, you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing my darling, I fear.” - e.e. cummings

Poetry has been used throughout history to express emotions, pass on oral histories, and describe the beauty of the world around us. It is an art which uses aesthetics and rhythm to evoke multiple meanings from a single verse.

Poetry is universal - historical poems can be found in nearly every early culture. There are also many different forms of poems - from long epics such as The Iliad to shorter haikus, each style of poetry has its own unique way of expressing the author’s ideas.

Your challenge this month is to craft an item based on a form or style of poetry or a specific poem. If you are using a specific poem as inspiration, please include a paragraph/stanza from the poem in your submission. If you are using a form or style of poetry, please explain what the form is, and how it has inspired your project.

My submission for this challenge is a children’s poem about an elephant. Apparently elephants make wonderful friends!

I was inspired to knit flower power elephant by the poem below. The poem can be found here.

My Elephant Thinks I’m Wonderful
A Funny Elephant Poem for Kids
From the book My Hippo Has the Hiccups

My elephant thinks I’m wonderful.
My elephant thinks I’m cool.
My elephant hangs around with me
and follows me into school.

My elephant likes the way I look.
He thinks that I’m fun and smart.
He thinks that I’m kind and generous
and have a terrific heart.

My elephant thinks I’m brave and bold.
He’s proud of my strength and guts.
But mostly he likes the way I smell.
My elephant thinks I’m nuts.

Team Tie In:
Elephants are known for their incredible memories. You’ve heard the saying that an elephant never forgets. In season 6, Episode “Tabula Rasa,” Willow casts a spell to make Buffy forget that she was in heaven, and Tara to forget that they fought over magic. An elephant never forgets. This makes me think that an elephant may not be a bad thing for the scoobies to have around.
