Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life crochet class! Drunken Irish Lace. “You’ll be learning traditional Irish crochet techniques, only bigger, louder, and much more colorful.”

The patterns are coming from the book Connect the Shapes Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman….

Classes are Monday nights, 6/9 through 6/30.
First motif, number 23. Second motif, number 88.

11 June 2014
2nd of 4 of motif 88 completed.

14 June 2014
Couldn’t begin working on this again until today. Finished all of first 2 motifs, starting the 3rd one, number 46. Seems very fiddly….

15 June 2014
Finished all 4 of motif #46. Didn’t love it. But I’m done. Started #50, the triangle one, even though we don’t start those until tomorrow evening’s class. Couldn’t figure out round 2; it’s past my bedtime so figure I’m just tired.

16 June 2014
Got it! Had to read the pattern carefully about 4 times before I saw what I was missing the first few times. Worked out just fine after that. Finished one. LOVE this motif!

16 June 2014
Well! Turns out that I didn’t have to make FOUR of each of the motif, but just 3. Heh! Oh well…. So, last night’s motifs were number 50 (which I finished in the morning because I couldn’t wait til class), no.86, which to be honest, is very weird and looks like a fancy uterus or something…. Not sure I like that one at all! Anyway, there’s also a simple leaf motif (no number) that I did in the Cobblestone Heather colorway, and number 11, which I haven’t done yet. Will do that one today. And then make sure I have only THREE of each by next Monday’s class…

17 June 2014
Leaves finished… actually, I did 5 of them. First one was the gray one, and it’s off. Second one was the green one, that I realized that I didn’t do correctly, but I like its rounder shape a lot. Third was purple, and I realized that I did the 2nd round on top very wrong. It came out with big gaps. Then I remembered I was supposed to DC, picot, DC; TC, picot, TC; DC, picot, DC on the top. I forgot the 2nd of each one! Thus, holes. I had already cut the yarn, so when I went back to fix it, they were all DC’s because I didn’t have enough yarn to do the TC, picot, TC. I like how it came out. The yellow as the 4th one. Done correctly, but the shape seems off? Blackberry was the last one. Figured I might has well have one in all 5 colors! Heh! So, tonight, have to finish up the 2 triangles, 2 more of each to have 3 of each motif (or I might go ahead and keep with my 4 each trend….). Fun times!

22 June 2014
Completed Week 2’s motifs. Plus extra leaves. Today’s class will be 3-dimensional flowery looking motifs! YAY!

30 June 2014
All motifs are finished-- I have 45 total. Made 12 extras of #33 because I had enough bits of yarn leftover to do so. All washed, soaked, and blocked. Tonight’s class is joining it all together! Weeee!

3 July 2014
Been working on the Clones Knots all week. Have a nice little rhythm down now. But still, 10 done, 35 to go…..

4 July 2014 Ack!!! Ran out of the Knit Picks Felici that I was using to do the Clones Knots!! And the yarn is discontinued at Knit Picks!! NOOOOOOOOOOOoooOOoooooo!!!! (cries).

There was a time when yarns were kind
When their fibers were soft
And their twines inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
With a hook and some woollies,
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that yarn would never end
I dreamed of yardage that’s forgiving…..

Went stash-diving, found some complementary yarns to subsitute around some of the motifs. It should be ok…. Sniffle….sob!

6 July 2014 All knots done. And now 90 ends to weave in. 90. Ends. Sigh……………

7 July 2014
Took a slightly long lunch and finished the Clones! Yeeehaw!!!! Ready to assemble tonight @ Madame DeFarge’s Knitting Salon……

Someone on Ravelry offered to gouge me on some extra Felici in Maple Leaves. Normally $5.49, she wanted $10 a skein because “that’s how much it would cost for me to replace this yarn in my project…” Naturally, I said thanks but no thanks.
13 July 2014
Found in my stash a nice bit of merino silk dk (Sweet Georgia) that blends in very nicely with the Felici. So that is what I will use.
