Well, this was fun! I’ve had the pattern for years and years, and finally one day I thought now is the time. Cleverly decided to knit the sleeves first, since I suspected they would not feel like fun at all after all the good stuff happening at the body part.
Knit bottom up, in the round.
Steeked in front + for sleeves.
Lots of very long floats (10-15-20 sts) so if you are not a big fan if catching floats I would absolutely recommend using the jaquard ladder back technique, that’s what I did.
Now to test different closures and see if clasps, buttons or a zipper will be the best option.
NOTE: The neck opening is…off..? It’s quite narrow, and exists only in front. I widened it, changed the “scoop” line and I also scooped out a part in the neck area as well - I did this by steeking, and if I had been aware in advance I would have just knitted the whole body straight up and done the whole neck opening thing later by steeking. Next time, I’ll do just that, and not bother with the decreases in the chart.
The model has a very typical boxy fit of the 80’s and whilst I don’t mind the shape and width of the body, I’m not overly fond of super wide sleeves. So I didn’t increase quite as often as the pattern tells you to do, and I ended up with 100 sts at the end of the sleeves, rather than the 120 sts I was supposed to. I still think it suits the jacket and it makes it easier to wear. (This is probably the reason why I used less yarn than the pattern states, I think about one ball less of each color)
