Notes

I love the Midnight Heather colorway and thought it would be really fun to do a Chickadee using it as the main color. It sort of reminds me of a Blackbird’s wings. This is my first time actually using any of my Knit Picks yarn. The yarn was a little scratchy to work with, but it did soften a little after soaking, though I don’t think I would wear it directly next to the skin still.

WANT THE BUTTONS: CHECK OUT MGLoden on etsy. She is FABULOUS! Great designs! I can’t believe how quickly after I ordered that I got them.

Would definitely like to give this another go, with the correct sizing. I got gauge with this yarn/needle combo. As a result of the boo boo in casting on the wrong size the neckline sits higher than it should, but it’s still wearable. Just gives it a different look.

01/01/12 cast on and almost finished with the yoke.

01/02/12 finished neckline shaping, raglan increases and started left sleeve. I’m hoping this will grow a little, I accidentally did the smaller size than I wanted, so it may end up being a gift for somebody :P.

01/11/12 I’ve had a little stress occuring in my life right now and I’m not entirely sure this will fit correctly if I finish it soon, so I’ll put it on hold for a few months.

05/10/12 Picking this up again, hopefully I’ll be able to remember where exactly I was in the pattern fairly easily. Doing some mods with the sleeves because I have short arms.

  • O=as written
  • P=11
  • Q=8
  • R=as written

Now that I remembered I figured I should write it down so I’ll have it for the other sleeve. Made it through 7 of 11 decreases.

05/11/12 Finished left sleeve, bought a 12” needle and the sleeves are going so much faster. Joined yarn and separated stitches and started right sleeve.

05/14/12 Completed right sleeve. Rejoined yarn and picked up underarm stitches. Deciding if I should attempt to try some bust darts to help the sizing issue.

05/15/12 I think I have the darts figured out. I will work the 24 body rows as written(10 worked tonight), will insert the darts and then continue with the waist shaping as written. This is moving along rather well since I don’t have a lot of knitting time these days.

05/16/12 Ready to start darts, here goes nothing!

05/17/12 Finished the darts last night, I’m excited about how they turned out! Ready to start the rest of the body and shaping.

05/20/12 Finished another project today, so now maybe I can refocus on this again. Looked at the pattern and I think I’m going to knit only the 1st, 3rd, and 5th decrease so that the waist will end up close to the 38 size. Once I’ve completed the decreases I’ll decide what to do with the hip increases.

05/21/12 placed markers and knit first decrease row.

05/22/12 about half way from the third decrease to the fifth decrease.

05/23/12 decreases are complete, just need to finish straight waist knitting then I can start hip increases :)

05/27/12 finished main body of the sweater this morning, picked up stitches for the edging. I can’t believe I’m finally almost finished!

05/28/12 All done! Just finishing up weaving in the ends. I will try to block it in the next couple days, and get the buttons sewn on (they are so cute!).

06/01/12 buttons all on and it fits great!!! I’m beyond excited that the modifications worked out they way I hoped! Hopefully I have some time this weekend to get some photos :) I know the scalloped edge on the button band is part of the design element, but I’m not sure I love it, so I may add some snaps between the buttons to pull it straight.

I found a grave
Brushed off the face
Felt your light
and I remember why I know this place

I found a bird
Closing her eyes
One last time
And I wonder if she dreamed like me

Well, as much as it hurts,
Ain’t it wonderful to feel?
So go on and bring your wings
Follow your heart
Till it bleeds
As we run towards the end of the dream
