We were in the ski section of a sporting goods store when my 2-year old spotted a crazy knit earflap hat, complete with tassles and pompoms. She ran amok in the store in that hat and couldn’t stop looking at herself in the mirror. I couldn’t bring myself to buy a mass-produced knit hat, so I set out to find the most ostentatious colorwork earflap hat pattern on Ravelry, and then combined it with the brightest and craziest yarn in my stash and voila!

I wanted as much action going on as possible, so I modified it slightly, making one of the hearts in purple. This required learning how to do intarsia knitting in the round, which I decided I abhor and never want to do again. So there’s that.

The inside of the hat is a mess, due to all the floats, some of which are quite long. But who cares? It’s crazy and cute.
