Swatched & started this several times with different yarns until I was happy. Was using a lovely dark green from Donegal Yarns, but it proved hard to work with in cables as it was so dark-- hard to see stitches for more intricate work. So I ordered bright green Hobbii Friends wool & its much easier going!

The cabling is gorgeous IMO, I like how it starts right away on the neck. I learned a few new cables and after a few goes I had them memorised. There is an accompanying video, which I watched- though I ended up using a single cable needle for those twisted cables.

It was also my first time doing bobbles, the crochet method wasn’t hard at all once I got the hang of it.

My MODIFICATION --When I tried it on with just the yoke, and then again after splitting for sleeves I loved the look of it as short sleeved. Athena said it was fine to do it short sleeved (this was a test knit) so I’ve done so. I added just 3 rounds of stockinette and then did an icord bind off for a very short sleeve, as I like that look with this beautiful cable pattern. This will be excellent for our Irish transitional seasons, and indoors in winter since I tend to run hot.

I am loving this garment, and the pattern was very clear. Its written and charted for the neck cables, but the yoke is just charted. That was no problem for me.

I also liked the yarn I used, and I’ll use it again. Very good value and a nice sturdy yarn, shows the cables well.
