This icelandic cap is called Skotthúfa.
It was worn by icelandic women in the 19th and 20th century.

The interesting detail is the lovely metal cylinder called Skúfhólkur which is slipped over the connection of the cap’s top and the tassel.

The colour of the tassel changed from black to red, crimson red ones were used in the 19th century, black tassels usually were added in the 20th century.

The one which I used is an old one, made of silver with some engravings. I was lucky to aquire this from Eva, who runs the online-shop Viravirki
