Two fishermen’s hats which I found on the dutch website “visserstruien.eu” in their webshop when surfing the net with fishermen sweaters or caps in focus

I used leftover yarn from my stash and as the original cap is knitted with one colour, I mixed 2 colours when knitting the second item.

These caps have an interesting construction:
first you start to knit the patterned brim (with the scalloped edge), then the inside lining part follows which will be fixed to the “outer side” by knitting together stitches from the needles with the backstitches of the first ribbed round.

Then the head is worked with 6 decrease lines.

The effect? The scalloped brim decorates the cap like a crown…

These patterns are part of the projects realized by the “Stichting Zeeuwse Visserstruien” foundation. Fishermen Sweaters and Caps were worn at the shores of the dutch coast and the Gansey Patterns have a lot in common with those from England and Scotland.

They published a small book with knitting patterns, which is available as PDF now in their webshop:

and just recently the first issue of a new magazine was published and is available at the webshop as well:
