Knitting an illusion with four colours is only slightly more difficult than knitting with two. Three yarns are used for the first half and there is a different combination for the other half. The result is that, when you look at the hanging from in front, you see four large striped squares. When you look from an angle the letters are revealed.

I used about 150 metres of the dark yarn for the border. It has five ridges of garter stitch on the front and the same again on the back to fold over the board. The finished size, on the board, is about 54 cm (22”).
