Notes

This shawl is simple to knit. Everything is in blocks of 16 so it is very easy to keep track, especially if you use stitch markers on your work. However you do need to pay attention to the chart each time you start another of the broad stripes because it doesn’t always do what you expect.

It is symmetrical so the stripes on each side of the centre match. Each broad stripe is a different combination of colours. There are only four colours. It is knitted sideways from one point. The pattern gives you various ways to change the size and how to reduce the width of the wide centre stripe. It also gives instructions for making an afghan.

When you look at the shawl from different angles you will sometimes see stripes and sometimes see a checkerboard pattern.

The title came from Illusions + Striation.
