In 1995 I entered two children’s coats in the International Mohair Competition. This one was in the final shortlist; the other took second prize.

It was made with a fairly ordinary mohair yarn. The only requisite was that it had to have a certain minimum mohair content but I don’t remember how much that was. I bought the yarn from a local shop and they were odd balls of different dye lots which really doesn’t matter in modular knitting.

It was based on information you can find in the Applications chapter of the Woolly Thoughts book. There is absolutely no shaping in the coat, which was lined with a lilac fabric.

There was also a hat, which can be seen in the very old photograph.
