It is almost twenty years since I first talked about making this.

When I made the original Spacecraft it was made with a very open filet crochet grid. I always said it would work on any background with a square grid such as a cellular blanket, garden fence, etc. For many years I have had the non-slip mat shown in the photo but have only just got round to using it.

The mat needed 64 squares across and wasn’t that wide so I overlapped two pieces to get the correct size. The curve was applied with surface crochet using two strands of an unknown textured yarn. (Smooth yarns don’t work well because of the twists and turns of the curve.) Working on a rubber backing is slightly more difficult than working with yarn as it is a bit more sticky.
