Notes

I really like the light heartedness of this character in an often difficult to navigate world. So, having loved watching the Miranda Hart TV series. I just had to make my own ‘Where’s Miranda figure’. Such fun! She’ll re-inspire me every time I see her!

I like to use a smaller hook than one recommended to get tight enough tension to hold shape & stop stuffing showing through.

HEAD: Long and Narrow p36 rows1-11 then continued with head pattern on p33 as I preferred the chin shaping.
Decided not to use safety eyes or bobble nose for this project.

WIG CAP & HAIR: DMC Perle yarn 938 chestnut brown.

LEGS & BODY: As Miranda is 1.85m (6ft 1”) tall, I need to ensure her legs and body are an appropriate size/ length. Started with curvy top p52 instructions to first dec row, then continued with basic top p43. Added 2 extra rows before neck decreases.
Bikini BUST (modified version of p54.) Used black cotton dk and my chosen flesh colour.
BOOT CUT trouser legs p67. Crocheted directly onto body rather than sew on afterwards, using the denim dk.
TRAINERS: p77 + the Leonard Hofstadter trainer pattern.

FACE: I decided to embroider and needle felt the features with DMC embroidery threads and felting wool. I used yarn on her nose, then workedon her eyes and finally her mouth.

Ears p33. Initial pair made her look more like Russell Tovey, so I scrapped those!

ARMS: p48

SPECTACLES for Where’s Wally costume : Made using 18 gauge black jewellery wire, tin snips and cat play wand to wrap around for shaping.

JUMPER: Designed a striped jumper to fit over doll bust. I put in a row of slip sts between colour changes to create the straight, non-zig-zaggy appearance. Worked in the round until got to under arms, then shaped front and back separately. Waist and cuff rib in alternating FPSC, BPSC Sts.
SLEEVES worked flat and sewn in place.

SCARF : Miranda wears a white & red striped scarf, so I did this as knitted rib.

HAT: I liked the idea of a compromise hat. Since while Miranda’s hat in the programme isn’t the same as for the original Wally character; for me, it somehow didn’t go with the overall look (as the stripes are narrower and it has a different shade of red. So, as you see, I made a combination of Miranda’s hat & original red /white ‘Where’s Wally’ hat.
