This is a fun pattern, a free pattern, and the perfect project for stash-busting. I have been buying Lion Brand Wool-Ease since the 60s, knitting so many blankets for friends and family that my garter stitch blankets live in states on both East and West coasts and Northern and Southern borders, plus another eight or so states scattered around the country.
Back when were a country and when Lion Brand had a washable wool worsted weight workhorse product line of 70+ colors in solids, tweeds, sprinkles, sparkles, heathers, twists, and variegated yarns, it was great. Now, the product line is short. I meant ‘another’ word here, but both are true.
The product line has been reduced to 16 colors the last time I checked (and wept) and the dark blues, greens, and browns are indistinguishable on a computer screen. There are no primary colors and no secondary colors in this much reduced product line. There are no baby pastels. You could not knit an American flag themed or a Pride flag themed FO with the colors you have in your product line now.
Great move, bean-counters at LB. You have alienated… I wanted to use Another Word here … a regular customer of yours over the past 60 years, and here is me, recently retired, with all the knitting time in the world.

I have rated this a ‘medium difficulty’ because the best result comes from following the inner/outer square right-/left-hand joining instructions precisely. Even this old hand messed it up a few times.
