Notes

I want to make this for Col.
He’s got a big head and I have dk yarn instead of worsted.
I think the cables are a repeat of 10, so I’ll keep adding to that foundation chain 10 at a time until we’ve made it all the way round.
Can’t wait :)

ok! Started!
I did a sc foundation chain 80 stitches long and I got to 64cm, which is exactly as big as Col’s head :)

As Main Colour I am using 2 strands held together of a sports yarn (drops merino). The Contrasting Colour is a chunky. It seems to work well together.

Oct 2019!! Picked this up again! … and finished it in one day…

Used this video to add a ribbed brim, it’s very tidy and elastic: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xsEPLeUSwmg I used 3mm hook for it, as suggested. It’s all done in sc’s so it’s slightly slow going, but it’s only a hat slightly_smiling_face …!

The hat is very thick and very warm (as if it had 2 layers). Acrylic may not have been the best choice for the contrasting colour… It’s also quite stiff. That maybe me being a bit tense with this new technique, or the acrylic yarn, or I should have pushed the hook up a mm or two…

Anyway, it was a lot of fun to make, easy to understand, fast… and it’s gorgeous smiley
