Tension swatch (to and fro) on 8mm:
in 3 x 2 rib - 15 sts & 18 rows to 4”
in st st - 12 sts & 20 rows to 4”
On 7mm (better fabric):
in st st - 14 sts & 18 rows to 4”
So 120 sts needed on 7mm. But turned out too big, so started again with 90 sts (which is what it should be for my size). Joined to work in the round straight after the cast-on - why wait?
7” before starting chart. 1st ball ended a few rounds before that. Joined in 3rd ball in round 27 of chart, it lasted until the base of the front neck. Started 6th ball just before the end of the 1st sleeve, 7th not far below the armhole in the 2nd sleeve.
2 plain rounds after the body chart, then 4 short rows. Confused at first by short row instructions until I realised that on the even rows the W&T comes before the EoR marker, not the new marker.
Stitch counts for armhole split for size M aren’t right. Best to mark centre front and centre back and ensure 20 sts left on either side of each after casting off under the arms.
Don’t like the low V-neck so I’ve worked the upper fronts like the back, but starting the round neck higher up. Ribbing then matches on shoulders.
Tweaked back armhole cast-offs to match fronts.
Did 20” for each sleeve before underarm. Why doesn’t the pattern explain that the cap is knitted back and forth? It might not be obvious for inexperienced knitters.
Worked double crochets around the neckline to neaten it and firm it up.
Got the whole thing out of under 6½ balls, or about 514m (since ball bands say 80m/50g, not 73m).
