Casual KAL with Cassy!
With 4.5mm needle I’m getting 6.25 stitches per inch (25 sts = 4 inches) which is a little tighter than the suggested gauge, but my row gauge is quite a bit looser, so I’m not going to mess around. I did the math and I think it might fit better at this slightly tighter gauge.
After debating the kind of fit I wanted for this skirt, I crunched some numbers and decided to do half as many increase (kfb k1, all the way around) to end up with 324 total. That will still give me about 10 inches of positive ease around the hips, so it should work out okay (here’s hoping anyway). Since that gave me a unique stitch count, I recalculated the numbers for the pocket placement and am doing 190 sts for the back and 134 for the front.
After joining back up after the pockets, I added 1.5 inches in length in MC before switching to the contrast.
Decided to go with plainer pockets (like yondercrawdad’s). I may still go back and knit plain cuffs for them, but I like that they’re a bit more hidden this way.
I found my waistband to be quite large the first time around. I went back and re-cut my elastic five inches smaller than my waist and then overlapped it by an inch to sew together, making six inches of negative ease. This definitely fits better, since you need a tighter waistband to make the skirt ruffle (without the ruffling, it just looks too big).
