Notes

This project is named for the song “Prison Girls” off of Middle Cyclone by Neko Case, the color of her hair and the gunpowder line matched this yarn very well, I think.

Basic sock. Cast on 64 stitches. Cuff is 2x2 rib for 15 rounds on size 1 needles. Stockinette leg until sock is the same length as the size 2 needles that I’ve been using to knit it on. Heel flap consists of the following rows worked on half the number of stitches for as many rows as there are heel stitches, ending with a purl row: (1) s1k1* repeat, (2) s1 p until end, (3)s1 s1k1* repeat, (4) s1 p until end. Heel turn is as follows: s1, k until 2 stitches past center stitch, ssk, k1, turn, s1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn, etc. Pick up stitches along heel flap. Alternate knit rounds and decrease rounds for the gusset until there are the same number of stitches as originally cast on. Decrease round: k until last 3 on needle 1, k2tog, k1, k needle 2, k1, ssk, k to end on needle 3. Then knit the foot.

Flat toe started when two inches remain when wearing sock.
