Notes

My gauge was smaller than the pattern’s so the bust is 42” instead of 43”.

I used one color instead of two because I wanted something neutral.

I used the German Twisted Cast On. I used the decrease bind off from Semplice Fingerless Mitts for the neck rib and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off for the sleeves.

I used SSK instead of SKP for the left-leaning decreases.

I used a three needle bind off for the shoulders.

I used 62 sts for the neck and 29 sts for each shoulder instead of 60 sts for the neck and 30 sts for each shoulder for a neck width of 11” and a shoulder width of 5”. I bound off 2 extra sts at the base of the back and front neck.

I worked the sleeves top-down, picking up the sts around the armhole.

The pattern says to pick up 66 sts for the sleeves for a 12” upper arm circumference. Since my gauge was smaller than the pattern’s I picked up 72 sts for the sleeves for a 12.5” upper arm circumference since the stitch pattern is a multiple of 6 and 66 sts would be 11.5” circumference.

I knit the armhole 6.25” long instead of 6” long to accommodate the larger upper arm circumference so the sweater is 12.75” long instead of 12.5” long. I knit the imitation embroidery stitch for 3.25” instead of 3”.

I started the front neck shaping when the armhole measured 4” so the neck is 2.25” deep instead of 2” deep.

I picked up 130 sts for the neck rib instead of 122 sts: 12 sts along each front neck, 43 sts for front neck, 63 sts for back neck. I worked 8 rounds of rib instead of 6 rounds.

My cast on edge was curly so I worked a single crochet border around the bottom of the sweater. It did not help as much as I’d hoped and the hem still rolls up.

I’m very disappointed with how this sweater turned out.

If I were to make this again I would knit the body 1”-2” longer, make the sleeves narrower (11.5” upper arm circumference would have been fine), reduce the width of the neckline, and use a different stitch pattern for the bottom of the sweater.

-cast on, knit 1 rnd, 26 rnds chevron layette stitch (3.5” long)
-22 rnds stockinette (3” long)
-2 rows stockinette (divide for front and back)

-23 rows stockinette (3” long)

-24 rnds miniature leaf pattern (3” long)
-26 rnds rib (3.5” long)
