Elijah is 4 months old in the first two photos (12/1/23), 11 months old in the next three photos (6/16/24), and 15 months old in the sixth photo (10/20/24).
Gauge:
- 18 sts x 24 rows = 4” in pattern
- 42-stitch cable panel = 6.5” wide
My row gauge was larger than the pattern’s. I used the 1-2 year stitch counts and made some changes to the sleeve increases and raglan shaping.
I didn’t go down a needle size for the rib because I thought using such small needles with this yarn would be uncomfortable.
I had a hard time working the raglan shaping while maintaining the cable pattern on the front pieces. There was a lot of ripping out and re-knitting.
I worked the neck decreases one stitch in from the edge and worked the center front stitch in stockinette instead of reverse stockinette.
Sleeve Increases: increase on 5th row then every 4th row to 33 sts then every 6th row to 39 sts
Raglan Shaping: BO 4 sts x 2 instead of 3 sts x 2 - 28 rows instead of 30 rows
For the button bands I cast on an extra stitch at the bottom edge per this button band tutorial so the bottom edge of the button band would look neat.
I picked up 72 sts for the button bands (not including the extra cast on sts): 5 rib + 44 front (3 sts for every 4 rows) + 11 sleeve + 12 back. I followed the shawl collar shaping instructions for size 6-12 months.
I used YO buttonholes instead of bound off buttonholes: rib 3, k2tog, yo, rib 4, k2tog, yo…(doesn’t include extra cast on stitch).
I used five 3/4” buttons from Joann Fabrics.
