Gauge:
- Granny square = 5”
- 20 sts x 28 rows = 4” in stockinette
I stole the granny square color scheme from this project.
For the back I used a long tail cast on, started with a WS row, and worked 17 rows in rib.
I used the decrease bind off from Semplice Fingerless Mitts for the bottom front rib, neckband, and sleeves.
Since my row gauge was smaller than the pattern’s I have more rows in the body and sleeves. For example, I knit 105 rows for the front panels instead of 100 rows.
I didn’t want a turtleneck so I worked 1” of rib around the neck instead of 4”. I picked up 33 sts for the back neck instead of 29 sts for a total of 92 sts instead of 88 sts.
For the side front panels I worked the first row after picking up the provisional cast on sts as a WS row. I wasn’t sure what to do and I googled and didn’t find anything. Then I realized that the pattern says to knit 100 rows and the joining row is a RS row so the first row should have been a RS row.
I worked the sleeves flat instead of in the round. I followed the stitch counts for size 43” for a 12.5” upper arm and 8.5” lower arm instead of 12.75” and 8.75” (because of the selvage sts). I worked 5” even per pattern then decreased every 6th row instead of every 5th row for a 13” length. I worked 1.25” even then worked 4” in rib. I increased 2 sts on the last row of stockinette to account for the selvage sts so the rib would start with K2 and end with P2.
The pattern says the sweater is 20.5” long but it doesn’t take into account the 3” of shoulder shaping, so it’s actually 23.5” long.
