Notes

So these are done, and I love the flowers!

2 things:

  1. I made them to fit my feet, which means no pointed toes. I keep thinking I want to make a solid double-knit pointed toe - would that work? Anyway putting it here so I don’t forget it. I think the pointed toes are nicer looking than my boxy ones.

  2. They cling onto my foot perfectly. but my ankles get cold, so I might come back and pick up the stitches around the little cuff area and knit some longer cuffs.

Blue recycled sweater yarn, 74% acrylic, 15% wool, 11% mohair.
Gray recycled sweater yarn, 100% lambswool.

This is the first stranding I’ve done other than Christmas ornaments (first wearable stranded project).

Finished weight, 36 grams each

Altered to fit my wide square toe:

  • Cast on 32 (16 upper, 16 lower).
  • Increase 4 every round (+1 at beginning of first & third needle, +1 at end of second & fourth needle)
  • Total 8 increase rounds to 64 total st (32 upper, 32 lower)
  • Add 2 st on each side just inside lines up the sides and recenter pattern

Alternative cuff treatment for future slippers:
At line for heel, knit across with waste yarn. Slide back and knit heel in the round. Remove waste yarn, picking up live st. Knit cuff in ribbing.

At heel end, decrease two at each end to round heel more.

The flower chart for this slipper is also found here:

(same chart, both patterns, missing one square on row 23)

A few words about using Judy’s Magic Cast On for a sock or slipper (or mitten) end:

There is no way to use this cast on, knit one round, and not get dog-ears.

The only way to avoid dog-ears is to start increasing immediately, on the very first round after the cast-on.

Example: knitting the first round without increasing is how I knitted this flat Valdani thread bag. It is knit with no increases at all.

If you want the toe to have shaping, the shaping increases have to start in the first round of knitting.
