After frogging it about a half dozen times, I finally got it.

The most important part is to make sure the carried yarn is on the correct side. If you accidentally carry it in back when it should be on the front of the working side, you will end up with unwanted lines of yarn on the finished front facing side. I did that about 10 rows up and then proceeded to knit another 10 rows before I saw it. Ripped back to start.

I discovered that you don’t have to cut the yarn when changing colors. Because of the way the pattern creates a channel on the edge, I just carried the non working yarn up until I was read to use it. Just make sure to leave it loose in the channel.
