i designed and hand knit this piece in honor of joan mitchell. she referred to her paintings as abstract “landscapes” so accordingly, it was also inspired by my own memories of the schuylkill river trail/museum mile in philadelphia.

i hand knit the body of this intarsia combo turtleneck/5-pocket work shirt with double-stranded madelinetosh chunky in ink. all the color work is intarsia and done by sight, sans grid. (you can see my hand painted muslin for this piece on my web site.) all the other colors come from a mix of the yarns listed above. i knit this flat, in separate pieces, then seamed it all together!
