Basically saw Ashley Johnson wearing this cardigan on critical role and instantly knew I needed it. Completely winging this as there is no official pattern as its a custom item (and amazing) so I’m taking inspiration from the original design and working out my own. I’m measuring off a comfortable t-shirt and if you can understand my scribbles I have a rough plan. This may change though.
I will be changing one element of the square pattern as I don’t like how it joins - instead, I’ll chain 2 and dc in the same stitch. It hides the join much nicer.
Also using stash yarn so I hope I have enough, especially considering the sleeves will take a bit.

Turns out I accidently reverse the colours on some hearts - but I’m rolling with it. I also laid put my back panel and I think I wanna add an extra row or two and make it longer. I definitely don’t have enough yarn to do so, so I’m gonna have to try colour match something from the yarn store…

Officially run out of yarn today. I am 5 short of the minimum I needed to make the jacket. So I am going to be adding in a few new colours. We are deriving a bit from the original but I’m liking where it’s going.

All squares are now crocheted. Ended up 7 squares down and 3 squares for the arms. Also added in a lot more colours than planned but I’m loving the effect. Time for tails and joining!

All squares are now joined. I have a lot of tails to weave in and some edging to crochet! It is coming together.
Its also very warm and not as heavy as I thought it would be.

The jacket is made. A matching belt was also made, but gives the jacket a dressing gown look when tied with it, so I may not use it. The coat has been washed in my usual softening mixture and is now drying ready to be worn…
It’s derived a lot from the original inspiration but I don’t love it any less.

realised I never talked about joining the squares! I used a chain stitch to join, joining vertical first then horizontal. I chained 4 then slip stitch into every third or so stitch, lining it up to be opposite to produce a zig zag. This allowed me to join nearly even if I had tucked an extra stitch or dropped a stitch in a square.
