A friend of mine has a good buddy named Carl and if you’ve ever seen the Youtube series of Llamas with Hats, you’ll get the hilarity of what I’m creating here. I bought two new skeins of yarn, Vanna’s Choice considering this will need to be an easy care item for this particular guy, but I found that I went a little too yellow. Enter partial skein from my stash-- I believe it’s the Kelly Green Vanna’s Choice from my God’s Eye blanket.
Let the fun begin!
Gauge, US 7, ~3.5 sts/in with Kelly Green
CO 72 sts for 2x2 rib on US 5
Switch to US 7 for stripes, ea 11r (roughly 2in)
After about 8 in (four stripes), begin decreases.
K10, k2tog
K4 rounds
K9, k2tog
K4 rounds
K8, k2tog
K3 rounds (and 3 rounds between every decrease after that, keeping the color striping sequence)
And please, if there is a secret cabal of pom makers that can enlighten me on how to attach a pom to the tip of a hat, please do so. Every which way I tried it sagged off to one side, or had an inappropriately long string. Through some kind of hoodoo mania I managed to get it on the best I could, but I’m still a bit wargarble about it!
