I seem to be on a hat knitting spree…
After knitting Dad’s Struan, Mom asked if I’d knit a hat for her too, since her current hat is kind of small for her. When we were playing around with possible color options for my planned Color Affection shawl, Mom staked a claim on this skein of Campari Piccolo, claiming that it looked ‘salmon’ colored (Mom’s definition of salmon is more of a peachy color, but oh well).
Since my Mom really liked the Pasha that I’d knit for my sister, I swatched to get gauge with the Wollmeise held doubled. I cast on more stitches, and knit a folded brim (I really like the look and the fit of the folded brim better). I switched to the 4.5mm needle immediately after the ribbing, instead of just at the decrease section. Oops. But actually, I like how it looks, plus you’ll definitely avoid hat head this way.
After finishing the lace section, I recommend steam blocking to make sure that the lace section doesn’t look so scrunched - ignore that if you’ll wetblock the hat, e.g. over a plate or a balloon. With the increase in stitches, the decrease section does look a bit bunched, but after it looks fine after the final steam block.
She loves her hat and reports that she’s gotten quite a few compliments. (But I’ll be taking a break from knitting another Pasha - I’ve already done three Struans, I don’t need to knit three Pashas!)
