Notes

Ann Budd’s raglan recipe in 44” size, with a few changes and embellishments:

  • Started about 4 rows down from the top so I’d have a few stitches established on the front pieces.
  • Raglan lines have 4st of reverse stockinette, increased either side with yos that I twist to close on the purl row - I like this increase for raglans as it doesn’t draw up the way lots of m1s on top of each other can.
  • Single row stripes with 2st reverse stockinette and a slipped stitch (knit on RS, slip on WS) at each edge.
  • After separating for the sleeves and body I knitted the sleeves flat with underarm stitches cast on each side, seamed, then underarm body stitches picked up from the sleeves.
  • Slight A-line shaping, increasing at 4 places, every 8 rows, 7 times after the bust (so +28 stitches total)
  • 2x2 garter rib hem and cuffs, using single row stripes of the Skeinz DK and Zealana Kauri - which, yes, is a fingering, but it worked fine. Single row stripes in two colours = working two right side rows, then two wrong side rows. These yarns aren’t exactly the same colour, but close enough that they visually blend when knitted.
  • Garter stitch band alternating two rows of Kauri then one of Skeinz DK, as I was running short. Some shaping in the band (decreases around the top of sleeves and neck, increases at the bottom of the V-neck). No buttons or buttonholes, I’m not going to button this.
  • All casting off was k2tbl, place back on left needle, repeat, worked on the wrong side.
