June 30th 2013 - FINISHED FINISHED FINISHED

I made a round of purple hdc on each motif, sewed them all together, filled in the triangles around the edges with free-form rows of hdc in purple, then for the border:

• hdc in purple
• (sc, ch) in light green
• (sc, ch) in dark green, working the sc into the previous round ch spaces
• (sc, ch) in blue, ditto
• (sc, ch) in purple, ditto
• hdc in purple

The final size ended up 6x9 motifs, which doesn’t sound a lot but it almost covers a single bed, very generous for the intended use as a lap blanket. Love, love, love this thing. So happy!

June 2013 - I’ve made 54 octagons and 40 squares and used up almost all of my yarn. Time to move onto the border round for each motif, then the joining and the final border :)

March 2013 - I decided to pick up this project again, but work the motifs much smaller. I ripped the ones I had done back to the 5th round, then added a new 6th round of plain dc worked in the back loop to make an even edge for joining. Now I’m steaming ahead again, hooray!

Finished size will depend on how far my yarn goes, as I’m trying to use up as much of it as possible, but I’m thinking something like:
7x10 (70 octagons + 54 squares)
8x11 (88 octagons + 70 squares)

December 2012 - I haven’t worked on this in months, I’m not enjoying the making process (even though I like the results) so I’m putting it on hibernation. I might try another pattern with the yarn and see how it goes…

In addition to the yarns above I’m using a bunch of small scraps from my remnants box.

I’m picking colours for each motif ‘on the fly’ with no rules except what looks good next to the last round.

No idea what size this will turn out to be, I’ll know when I’m done ;)
