Notes

My daughter can’t wear wool, even on her head. She also refuses to wear the hats I’ve bought her this winter (she’s a lot of fun!)

I’m attempting to knit her something that is “her style” so she will actually wear a hat.

She loves this teal velvet yarn, only issue is it is not hat yarn. It has no stretch and I could not make it work in any pattern I tried! I have seen hats crocheted from velvet yarn though, so I know it’s possible.

I decided when in doubt, knit a hat top down and you’ll get the right size without having to calculate gauge.

I cast on 6 stitches on us 8, kfb around and then began increasing 6 stitches every 2 rows.
I stopped at 60 stitches, being careful to keep in mind this yarn grows with wear (or so I’m told.) now I’m knitting until I get the right length for a fitted beanie.

Knit to a total length of 8.5 inches including brim. The brim was knit on us 7 needles in k2 p2 for 1.5 inches. I used Jennys Super Stretchy bind off.

The pom poms I found on amazon, they came in a set of 12. Layla couldn’t decide which one to use so I suggested she pick her 2 favourite and we would do ears.

Update : my daughter has been wearing this hat everyday this month and it has kept its shape and kept her warm! The fabric this yarn makes definitely will insulate against cold.
