• After several abortive tubular cast-on attempts, I just went ahead and used a German twisted. (12/4/16)

• Knit 20 rounds 2 x 2 ribbing
• On first knit row before texture pattern, decreased to 60.
• 30 sts on each needle.
• Switched to dpns, 15 sts on each needle. No ladders!

• Finished leg on sock #1
• Decreased (in pattern) 4 stitches on Round 71 (next to last rnd, which is a pattern Round 3: K1, p1, k1, ssk, [k1, p1, k2] to last 8 sts, k1, p1, k1, k2tog, k1, p1, k2

• Heel flap complete: 32 rows
• Heel turn begins: Sl 1, p14, p2tog, p1, turn
• Next row: sl 1, k3, ssk, k1, turn
• 16 stitches on needle after all stitches worked
• Needle 1: 8 sts (half of 16 heel sts) + 16 sts pu from heel flap edge + 1 between heel flap & instep + 14 instep (half of 28) = 39 sts
• Needle 2: 14 instep (half of 28) + 1 between heel flap & instep + 16 sts pu from heel flap edge + 8 sts (half of 16 heel sts) = 39 sts

• After completing last gusset decrease, knit all the way around needle 2 plus first 14 sts on needle 1.
• Arrange sts so that the patterned instep sts (28 sts) occupy Needle 1, stockinette heel stitches occupy Needle 2 <— these will become the sole sts.

Foot

Round 1

1. Needle 1 (instep): Work 28 sts in pattern, beginning with Row 1 of Texture Pattern: [K3, P1].
2. Needle 2 (sole): knit all 28 stitches.
   

Work foot to the end of Round 64, working instep sts (needle 1) in pattern and sole sts (needle 2) in st st.

Begin toe.
Toe modifications: Do not decrease on Row 1. End with 10 sts on each needle.
Sock #1 complete (except for weaving in ends).

CO 64 for sock #2
3 rounds of 2x2 ribbing so far.
