Notes

I am so excited to knit this - I had come across it late one night while scrolling through sweater projects and you can’t possibly ignore the sleeves on this sweater!

I put it away in my favorites and out of my mind until I was recently looking through favorites again to remind myself of a color plan for another sweater. I went reading and looking again at the Poodle Pullover….

Then, I went to my stash. Guess what is in there? A magpie skein buy from my first stop at Tolt Yarn and Wool from Woolfolk called Flette Bulky. It is pillow soft, cuddly, unbelievably light…just so squishy!! And it looks like it would make THE perfect Poodle Pullover sleeve.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I ordered another skein of the Flette Bulky from Tolt and the matching fingering weight yarn that pattern calls for. I am excited about knitting it up in a gauge that makes sense to me after struggling with other designer/patterns and gauges for sweaters in fingering weights.

I did a quick swatch for the puffy poodle sleeve and it looks like I’ll be needing to knit that at US 11 (not per pattern, as their bulky strand is slubby mohair, doesn’t quite have the major puff that Flette will have) so I will either reduce stitches or knit as written depending on how Poodle-y it gets.

I can’t even wait to get my yarn!!

I cast on last night and it’s been either not paying attention or an amalgamation of errors in the increases, but I haven’t managed to get correct stitch count after the first two increases called for in the pattern. ?! I’m up to the third increase and maybe this time it will actually add up? I had to basically make up increases in following rounds until I made the stated stitch count.

Bec this is a solid color yoke, and I used Inv-L increases, I’m not inclined to tear it all back and try again. They’re not noticeable and I don’t think the round count where I had to add increases will deeply affect the yoke.

Yarn - Woolfolk Tynd
It is sooooo wonderful. So soft. Is knitting up with a little halo of wool, I feel like it’s a tiny cloud in my hands. Man, I love it.

Gauge, Needles, Size
Because the pattern calls for light fingering, my swatches weren’t reaching the 25st/4” w the Tynd. I decided to knit Size 3 with US 4. So far I like the fabric and once I’m done w the yoke, I’ll know whether or not I chose correctly for the size with that needle. I am 42” bust. The size 3 is 40 1/4” with 1-3” positive ease. I think I’ll be right in there. I blocked my swatch (first time for everything!) and feel like fiber will bloom a little, give me some room with the small margin of ease. I think it’s going to be perfect.

Love the Yarn, Love the Poodle
I finished a sleeve before continuing with the body because I wanted to get straight at it and I am so tickled with how it turned out. The Flette bulky was exactly how it should be for this pattern - soft, fluffy, went great with the Tynd (every other row). I kept it at US 8 and knit it very loose. It was fun to do that, wide open.

Highly recommend this easily found combo of yarns if you can’t find the Japanese yarn easily. Mine will of course be a lot warmer at wool versus linen, but so far the garment is still very light in weight. DID I MENTION HOW SOFT IT IS???????????

Cuff
This pattern repeat was so easy and has such great details for very little work, part of why I wanted to knit this pattern was this cuff. It looked so fancy, I was worried I wouldn’t know how to do it. NO problem, pattern very simple and easy to follow chart. Love how it turned out!!

Finished the sleeves, full poodle glory
Have about two ish inches complete on the body after sleeves. Have been away from this project working on Icelandic Looi sweater w giant needles and big, rough unspun wool, it was like knitting on the moon today w the tiny and so soft Tynde. Will be on sweater island for awhile, but can’t wait to finish and wear somewhere, somehow.
