Notes

At first I started knitting a totally different pattern but when the back was almost done it looked much too long and big for me, so I unraveled it till the beginning of the armholes and looked for another pattern with the same number of stitches. That is how I made Kalin.
My modifications:

  • used 2x2 ribbing everywhere, with tubular cast on and bind off;
  • started the front neck opening higher than the pattern requires (after the second increase for the armholes);
  • picked up less stitches around the neckline (I wanted the V-neck to stay in place and not to slide from shoulders);
  • after completing back and front, seamed the shoulders together, and picked up stitches for the sleeves (112 stitches for each), knit them with 11 decreases in every 10th row, made 20 decreases in the last row before the ribbing;
  • 14 rows of 2x2 ribbing for the neckline and cuffs.

This was my first time with camelhair yarn. It is easy to work with, light and warm, but the finished fabric was a bit coarse at first. It became much softer and evened up after being washed (twice!) in hot wather in washing machine.
Love the color and fit. So glad that it was actually finished (I nearly gave up on it a couple of times).
A very basic sweater that can be easily combined with anything.
Blooged here.
