Bold contrasts and graphic stripes. Daybreak by Stephen West features a classic semicircular shape and a generous wingspan. We knit our sample in Noro Silk Garden sock, pairing a neutral colourway with graphic pink, red, and orange, reminiscent of the sky at dawn.

Silk Garden Sock is longstanding favourite yarn among knitters and crocheters. A versatile blend of wool, silk, nylon, and mohair, this yarn is a wonderful choice for projects beyond socks. We love how it drapes in a shawl.

Our sample is the medium size and used one ball each of S269 - Komaki and S84 - Otaru. Our knitter did the optional backwards loop cast on for increases at the sides to add stretch and an Icelandic bind off.

We recommend keeping your tension loose in the first few stitches of each row or even increasing with a yarn over to make sure the top edge of the shawl has enough stretch. Our sample is not as long as the pattern specifies because we were unable to stretch it 70” when blocking. However it’s still a generously sized shawl that’s comfortable to wear.
