Brookie and I both did a test. Her project is here:

The first bee I made (the large one), was made with a 6.5mm hook since I was using a #6 yarn. But that #6 is as thin as a #4, so it ended up being too holey. Still, it ended up being much smaller than the pattern indicates because the yarn is different. It is 5.5” long x 4.5” high.

The second bee was made with a 5.5mm hook, and turned out much better/tighter. I forgot to measure it, but it’s significantly smaller.
