Notes

This pattern is not on Ravelry, but the designer does have a store. The Crochet Carpenter on Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/designers/aaron-hayden

Pam requested I make 3 of these for her cats with catnip after she saw them posted by a designer in one of her cat groups. That designer does now sell her pattern, but IMO it’s unreasonable priced at $10.50. She sells the completed cups for $22 plus shipping, so I told Pam to order from her because I can’t and won’t make them for that little because I HATE these kinds of projects. Even so, she insists she wants me to make them though I was honest and said I might have to charge $35 or $40 each.

I made a practice one using The Crochet Carpenter’s pattern to see if it would work. I think it will, but it’s probably too big AND too holey. I’ll have to go down a hook size and also possibly use YUYO.

MEASUREMENTS:
5” tall cup only, 7” including straw
3.5” wide, 4.25” including handle

NOTES ABOUT PATTERN:
I really liked learning how to crochet the pieces on vs. sewing. That’s what drew me to this pattern the most.

However, if I’d known the designer’s style of writing was to use steps vs. rounds/rows, I probably wouldn’t have gotten it. I don’t know in what world that’s helpful, really. So much better to be able to count your rows and see where you are in the pattern that way.

There are also some very confusing parts that I had to figure out as well as a part that I am unable to make any sense of. I have no idea what he means about crocheting through a few stitches of the straw on one round and then crocheting through the other stitches on the next round. I haven’t seen any other comments on that, but even Brooklyn tried and didn’t think it could be done the way it was written.

UPDATE: Brenda reads it differently than I did. Here’s her take:
Looking at his posts the straw looks tilted so maybe …do the 1st round thru whole straw and the 2nd thru 2 spots above but not thru whole straw so it tilts. I would probably just skip that 2nd straw attachment.

Another modification I made was to go back at the end and crochet the FLO HDC round. I could not make that section look right the way it’s written.

NEXT TIME
I’ll use some modifications to make it smaller for Pam’s cat toys:
