7/13 I purchased 3 queen size sheets from thrift store. Also purchased a self-healing cutting board, ruler, and roller cutter.
My plan is to warp the loom for two 24’ x36” rugs. I spent a good portion of the day reading The Rag Rug Handbook to figure out math for warping the loom (epi, takeup %, etc). Spent afternoon cutting sheets into 1’ strips per the book. No idea how much fabric I need to make the rugs. Fingers crossed there queen size sheets is enough for a least one rug. I’ve got three duvet covers I can cut up for the second rug.
8/19 Finished warping the loom.
8/23 I sewed my strips of fabric together on my new (to me) Bernina. I took a while to get started because I had to watch some videos to remember how to use the sewing machine. I discovered the sewing machine threads the needle for me! Plus at the end of the seam it locks the stitches and cuts the thread. Amazing!
I wove about 25” in about two hours. It’s a bit fiddly getting the right side of fabric facing up, but weaving up surprisingly fast.
8/27 Stayed up late and finished the second rug. Cut off loom and stitches the ends.
I was concerned the two patterned sheets were too similar but they look great!
