Started just before Knit City because I had hardly anything on the needles!
using #3 Destiny circs and D hook
I wasn’t sure if the gradient set would have enough yarn for the later color layers. Sure enough, I ran out after I was most of the way through the Robert layer. I borrowed some yarn from the mini skein I had to finish that section and ordered more yarn from Amy.
The William section had to be scrapped - the yarn was too variegated for such small patches - it turned out almost half and half in color and looked remarkably like camouflage…
I skipped ahead to Mrs. Hughes with the full skein Amy sent which was quite a bit lighter than the partial n the gradient set - perfect since I had to skip William!
Thomas was a bit too dark of a jump from Mrs. Hughes and the full skein version Amy sent was way more green than teal, like the gradient set version.
I wanted a larger shawl anyway, so at Knit Fit I found a Hazel Knits skein that would bridge the color gap between Mrs. Hughes and Thomas nicely and should help the overall shawl read more as a teal. As I’m knitting with it it does look slightly different because the Hazel Knits is 3-ply and the Canon Hand Dyes are 2-ply…I’m having to knit the Hazel Knits sections a bit tighter so the waves stay the same size. I’m hoping it won’t be too noticeable once it’s blocked and no longer under intense scrutiny as I knit it.
I have been using the Crochet Chain CO method because I like the look of that better than the Cabled CO.
Picking up sts in garter st is hard - to make it easier I’ve been slipping the first st of every row so I have a clearer edge to work with.
For the short row top tier it helped to place a maker on the last stitch of the previous section so I could keep track of where the short rows ended. for the last row there should be one unwrapped stitch left before you turn, then knit across all remaining sts including the 2 unwrapped sts at the end.
